Hi there,

I'd like to request support for Android TV in the Amnezia client app. While Amnezia currently supports Android, it would be very beneficial to have a version specifically designed for the larger screen and remote control interface of Android TV devices.

This would allow users to easily connect to their self-hosted VPN servers directly from their TVs.

Here are some additional details to consider:

  • A user interface optimized for navigation with a remote control.
  • Support for common remote control features for easier interaction.
  • Consideration for displaying information on larger screens.

I believe adding Android TV support would greatly improve the usability of Amnezia for a wider range of devices.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Now I have to use a mouse.
And the installed application does not appear on TV as usual. But it is located as a system one. With a mouse, you have to spend a long time browsing through the system menus every time you turn it on.
But it works.

I hear your frustration! It's not ideal to navigate system menus constantly. The good news is, there's an app called Sideload Launcher - Android TV that can help. You can find it directly on your Android TV's Play Store. This app creates a convenient launcher for non-Android TV apps you've sideloaded, making them easier to access without needing to delve into system menus.

Does anyone know alternative clients for android tv which support amneziaWG protocol for android tv?

On Android TV:

I understand you're having trouble installing AmneziaVPN on your Android TV. Here are some steps that might help:

  1. Check Processor Architecture:

image

  1. Download Compatible AmneziaVPN APK:

  2. Transfer and Install the APK:

    • Use a file transfer app like Send files to TV (available on both Android TV Play Store: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv&hl=en_US] and your phone's Play Store) to transfer the downloaded APK to your Android TV. Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for this to work.
    • Once transferred, locate the APK file on your TV using a file manager app and launch it to begin installation.

Understanding AmneziaVPN APK variations:

The different AmneziaVPN APKs (AmneziaVPN-arm64-v8a-release.apk, AmneziaVPN-armeabi-v7a-release.apk, and AmneziaVPN-x86-release.apk) are designed for specific processor architectures:

  • arm64-v8a: This is for newer Android devices with 64-bit processors.
  • armeabi-v7a: This is more common for older Android devices with 32-bit processors.
  • x86: This applies to certain non-standard Android devices using Intel or AMD processors.

Using Sideload Launcher:

After installing AmneziaVPN (or any other non-Android TV app), you can use Sideload Launcher (available on the Android TV Play Store: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en_US]) to easily access it. Sideload Launcher creates a convenient interface for sideloaded apps, eliminating the need to navigate system menus.

I hope this comprehensive response helps you get AmneziaVPN or another suitable VPN client up and running on your Android TV!

Here are some steps that might help: 1. **Check Processor Architecture:** - Install Droid Hardware Info (from the Play Store: [[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inkwired.droidinfo&hl=en_US](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inkwired.droidinfo&hl=en_US)] or [https://apkcombo.com/droid-hardware-info/com.inkwired.droidinfo/download/apk](https://apkcombo.com/droid-hardware-info/com.inkwired.droidinfo/download/apk) - use a web browser on your Android TV, your computer, or phone to download if Play Store isn't an option). - Once installed, launch Droid Hardware Info and navigate to the "System" tab. Look for the section labeled "Instruction Sets." This will tell you your device's architecture (arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, or x86). ![image](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/2a2bdcc7-7393-4424-9f0b-be0ecaf3f04d) 2. **Download Compatible AmneziaVPN APK:** - Go to the AmneziaVPN releases on GitHub ([https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amnezia-client/releases](https://github.com/amnezia-vpn/amnezia-client/releases)). - Download the APK version that matches your device's architecture (e.g., AmneziaVPN-arm64-v8a-release.apk for a 64-bit processor). 3. **Transfer and Install the APK:** - Use a file transfer app like Send files to TV (available on both Android TV Play Store: [[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv&hl=en_US](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv&hl=en_US)] and your phone's Play Store) to transfer the downloaded APK to your Android TV. A working option for working on Google TV and Android TV:
Working AmneziaVPN on the phone, in it, in the "share" menu, create the file amnezia_for_awg.conf. Install AmneziaWG on TV from Google Play. When you start the program, there will be a "+" at the bottom right, click on it and add the generated file amnezia_for_awg.conf. The file, of course, must be transferred to the TV. Everything works.

It was a really tricky, but I did it. This is my way:

  1. Download Amnezia app from the last release (I tried to use the version exactly for my CPU (arm64_8a), but it doesn't work, so I just downaded 5 different apks and installed the one of them (armeabi-v7a)
  2. The standard remote control doesn't work in the app, so I connected a usb Bluetooth mouse to the TV and being used it for navigation inside app
  3. I tried to send the vpn file to myTV with help of several apps, but they didn't work. Finally I installed File Manager, connected it to Google Driver and transferred vpn-file with it.
  4. The final step is selecting the vpn file in the Amnezia app, but... it doesn't work. But, @AndyVokurka @Argentum4, if you tried to click to the vpn file, it will be opened in Amnezia app by default on the correct screen with Connect button.
That's my way to the free internet. No welcome, dears.

P.S. Possible in the future I will make a PR with supporting all necessary features for TV, but now I don't have time for another open source project
