Before submitting

  • I searched open and closed issues for the test path; no matching timeout report found.
  • Evidence contains no credentials or sensitive target data.

Area

Other (CI tests)

Observed behavior

Full qualification at 6b180783ed04ebc87548c8385c80e05725804c47 fails only the compact catalog identity case in tests/boundary/mcp/serverIdentity.test.ts: its explicit 10,000 ms timeout fires (reported duration 11,132 ms). The other 3,562 tests in that shard pass. Executed job and logs.

Reproduction

Observed once in the full Linux coverage job. Local Node 24.18.0/macOS arm64 command npx vitest run --project=mcp-boundary tests/boundary/mcp/serverIdentity.test.ts --coverage --shard=1/1 passes all 11 cases; the compact case takes 2,145 ms locally. The CI timeout has not been reproduced locally.

Expected behavior

These transport/catalog checks should inherit the suite-owned bounded deadline (30 seconds ordinarily, 60 with coverage), rather than overriding it with a machine-dependent 10-second limit. They assert catalog identity and session behavior, not a 10-second performance contract.

Impact and scope

Blocks full qualification. The five other coverage shards pass. No runtime identity defect or failed identity assertion established.

REA version

6b180783ed04ebc87548c8385c80e05725804c47

Runtime and platform

GitHub Ubuntu runner, pinned Node 24.18.0, Vitest 5.0.3 with V8 coverage.

Target and artifact context

In-memory MCP test session and the advertised full/compact catalogs; no external engine.

Interface

Other

Earliest failure stage

Unknown (test runner deadline)

Relevant output or evidence

Error: Test timed out in 10000ms. at serverIdentity.test.ts:364. Source: three explicit 10-second overrides in this file bypass the shared configuration. All transport, identity, and finally-block cleanup assertions remain applicable.

Analysis or suspected cause

Source-derived: duplicated deadline ownership ignores the existing coverage budget. CPU contention is plausible but not measured on the runner. Proposed correction: remove the three per-case overrides, retaining the existing shared bound and every assertion. No retries, coverage exclusion, or global timeout increase.

@morluto commented on GitHub (Oct 18, 2026):

Verified at bb212ffecb47e129cc569b9867b2b6e7c9b65685: full qualification completed successfully (38 passed jobs, one intentional skip), including all six coverage shards, aggregate coverage, Windows/macOS/Linux package checks and CI required. Push CI also passed.

Fixed in bb212ffec: removed the three per-case 10-second overrides so this file inherits the existing suite deadline (30 seconds ordinary / 60 coverage). All 11 server identity cases executed and passed in full CI; the compact case took 9,628 ms. All assertions and session cleanup remain. The local coverage/configuration packet passed 22 cases; typecheck and lint passed. No global timeout increase or retries.
