Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/morluto/rea/issues/1994

Observed on REA 6.4.0, macOS 14.8.9 x64, Ghidra 12.1.4 PUBLIC, Command Line Tools 16.2.

The release tree Ghidra/Features/Decompiler/os contains only linux_x86_64 and win_x86_64, so doctor reports native_decompiler missing and the provider stays unavailable. REA correctly refuses to build it.

A stock toolchain build works: make ghidra_opt in Ghidra/Features/Decompiler/src/decompile/cpp (about six minutes, bison plus clang present), then copy ghidra_opt to Ghidra/Features/Decompiler/os/mac_x86_64/decompile with executable bit. Doctor then passes every check and live decompilation returns Evidence.

Request: add this recipe to the Ghidra install docs so macOS users are not stuck with a healthy looking install that can never become available.

This looks resolved on main. docs/installation.md now has a "Missing macOS native decompiler" subsection under "Ghidra", added in b5ededd0f. It covers:

  • the native_decompiler doctor symptom
  • prerequisites (Command Line Tools, make, bison)
  • make ghidra_opt in Ghidra/Features/Decompiler/src/decompile/cpp
  • installing the result to os/mac_x86_64/decompile with mode 755
  • re-running rea doctor --json

It also notes that REA does not build the component.

One remaining gap: the recipe is x64-only, because the Ghidra 12.1.4 Makefile pins -arch x86_64 on Darwin. REA expects mac_arm_64 on Apple Silicon (src/ghidra/GhidraInstallation.ts), but I haven't verified an arm64 build, so I'm not proposing a recipe for it.

If that matches your intent, this issue can probably be closed.

The arm64 recipe gap called out in the merged installation note is now covered by a verified PR: #2112. It documents make ghidra_opt ARCH_TYPE="-arch arm64" OSDIR=mac_arm_64 (no Makefile edits, no Rosetta) and records the end-to-end verification on macOS 15.6 arm64: arm64 Mach-O binary, rea doctor native_decompiler healthy, and a live rea decompile through headless Ghidra 12.1.4.
