Before submitting

I searched the open and closed issues for a related report.
I removed credentials, tokens, private paths, and sensitive target data.

mrexodia/ida-pro-mcp 1.4.0 is the only supported ida mcp as far as I can tell.
I am using the mcp with the ida GUI open.

Unfortunately it causes a bug when searching strings.
rea search test.exe hello --json
Causes ida to hang inside 'Generating strings' loop.

After asking chatgpt it told me this:

I found the exact code in your version, REA 6.4.0

if (operation === "list_strings" || operation === "search_strings")
{
    const items = await this.strings();

    return operation === "search_strings"
        ? this.search(items, parameters)
        : items;
}

And strings() fetches list_strings in batches of 100 until pagination finishes.

The actual 1.4.0 mcp implementation can be called directly without having this bug. So this seems to be a problem with rea.

Reproduction

setup 1.4.0 + ida 9.3 as described in readme
rea search test.exe hello --json
the ida gui hangs

Expected behavior

It works without rea, only rea causes the hang.

Addressed on main in d4bd65c53.

Legacy IDA string inventory uses upstream count:0 once, avoiding repeated fake pagination.

Validation: IdaSessionClient 59 passed; global gates pass.

Verification scope: No IDA GUI launched.
