Summary

Field note for Kindred, a Fabric 1.20.1 mod adding a living AI companion NPC to Minecraft, powered by local LLMs through Ollama.
Covers bounded sensors/atlas/memory, model-free reflexes, NBT persistence, and the loader-api route rationale (custom LivingEntity, real vanilla hooks via a surrogate player).
Verified with 19 unit tests (config, intent parsing, mock Ollama transport) and 17 Minecraft GameTests (inventory, recipes, smelting, mining, atlas persistence, station dedup, real movement) — all passing.
Documents 12 numbered gotchas (wolf aggro misclassification, explore-command routing, duplicate crafting stations, pickup timing, AFK/stuck detection, base protection not yet implemented, etc.) and open questions for future work (dual-role planner, industrial mod adapters, multiplayer ownership).
