Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/Yuvi9587/Kemono-Downloader/issues/128
When Date Prefix is enabled in the subfolder settings and the file naming pattern is set to "Name ID", the initial download works correctly:
A folder named in the format YYYY-MM-DD PostName is created.
Files are saved inside that folder using the format id_x.
However, when a file fails to download and is later downloaded successfully through Auto Retry, the naming behavior becomes incorrect:
Instead of using the existing YYYY-MM-DD PostName folder, the program creates another subfolder named only PostName inside it (missing the date prefix).
The retried files are then saved into this new folder using their original, irregular filenames instead of the configured id_x naming format.
@Yuvi9587 commented on GitHub (Jun 20, 2026):
can you tell the format of folder inside of retry files is it post id or creator id or the post title
@szw9536 commented on GitHub (Jun 20, 2026):
The retry folder uses the post title.
@szw9536 commented on GitHub (Jun 29, 2026):
I also went back and tested manual retry, and the same issue occurs.
The retry process still creates a new PostTitle folder, and the downloaded images are saved with their original, seemingly random filenames instead of following the configured naming rules.
@Yuvi9587 commented on GitHub (Jul 5, 2026):
Try this https://github.com/Yuvi9587/Kemono-Downloader/releases/tag/v9.3.5
@szw9536 commented on GitHub (Jul 5, 2026):
Thanks for your effort! The retried files are now being saved in the correct folder.
However, the filenames are still not quite correct. Here is an example using the Post ID naming pattern:
[PostID]_0.jpeg
[PostID]_0.png
[PostID]_0_1.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #7
[PostID]_0_2.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #6
[PostID]_0_3.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #2
[PostID]_2.png
[PostID]_3.png
I also tested other naming patterns, and the behavior is similar. For example, with the Post Title naming pattern:
[PostTitle].jpeg
[PostTitle].png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #7
[PostTitle]_1.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #2
[PostTitle]_2.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #6
[PostTitle]_3.png
[PostTitle]_4.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #3
[PostTitle]_5.png ← downloaded during retry, should actually be image #4
So although the files are now saved in the correct folder, the retried files do not preserve their original order in the filename sequence.
@szw9536 commented on GitHub (Jul 7, 2026):
I also tested the Custom naming pattern.
In this mode, the issue is even more noticeable. Not only are the retried images assigned the wrong sequence, but regardless of the custom naming rule I set, all retried images are renamed using the Date + Post Title format instead.
@Yuvi9587 commented on GitHub (Jul 8, 2026):
Ye I am trying to fix this
@Yuvi9587 commented on GitHub (Jul 9, 2026):
Fixed it try this version just replace your existing exe in the Kemono Downloader folder with this Hot Fix version "https://huggingface.co/datasets/Yuvi9587/Kemono_Downloader_Hot_Fixes/blob/main/Kemono%20Downloader.exe"
@szw9536 commented on GitHub (Jul 10, 2026):
Thank you for all your hard work! Everything is being named correctly now. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into fixing this.
I do have one small suggestion. Since the program already has a Custom naming mode, would it make sense to remove the older preset naming modes? It seems like that might simplify the codebase and make it easier to maintain in the future.
Of course, I don't know anything about programming, so I have no idea how much work that would actually involve. If this suggestion would create extra work or isn't practical, please feel free to ignore it, and I'm sorry if I'm causing any inconvenience.
