Problem

Current fixtures prove breadth and result shape, but not every semantic claim required for reconstruction fidelity.

Outcome

Turn the fixture suite into a source-owned semantic oracle.

Verification matrix

• C: exact strings, globals, references, caller/callee identities, CFG successors, pseudocode, and assembly.
• Objective-C: class, protocol, property, selectors, implementation, and caller evidence.
• Swift: class, struct, enum, protocol, extension, strings, and call evidence.
• N-API: registration symbol, three export names, and expected registration references.
• Version pair: exact added/removed strings, symbols, and call edges.
• Large fixture: 500/500/205 pages, exact 1,205 prefixed procedures/strings, monotonic offsets, and no duplicates.
• Disposable Hopper database: name/comment/bookmark mutation, save, reopen, and readback.
• Cancellation, timeout, embedded-error rejection, and clean shutdown.

Acceptance criteria

No empty, unavailable, truncated, or embedded error can satisfy a positive assertion. Reports identify artifact/compiler/provider versions and retain sanitized failure diagnostics. Generated binaries remain ignored.

Dependencies

Parent: #48. Requires complete dossiers and explicit runtime ownership.

Non-goals

Decompiler-quality scoring across different providers.

Closure proof audit: current source fixtures and semantic assertions are substantial, but no recorded real-Hopper run covers the issue matrix. PR #85 explicitly records real fixture and Hopper verification as unrun; PR #74 predates the strengthened matrix and used two arbitrary binaries. Current fixture verification checks compiled artifacts with nm/strings rather than Hopper output, and the real verifier does not cover all source fixtures, database mutation/readback, or 500/500/205 pagination. Keep open until a real-Hopper fixture-matrix verifier is executed and its versioned report is retained.

Verifier progress: the real-Hopper lane is now bound to hash-verified source-owned fixture artifacts and a named C semantic oracle rather than arbitrary first procedures. This closes the central false-positive path for the C dossier slice, but it does not yet cover the full Objective-C, Swift, N-API, 1,205-item pagination, database mutation/readback, cancellation, and timeout matrix required here. Keep this issue open for those remaining fixture phases and a recorded licensed Hopper run.

Progress on the source-owned real-Hopper conformance lane: the manifest loader now digest-binds the generated large fixture, and the real verifier exhaustively walks search_procedures and search_strings at the public 100-result limit. Positive evidence requires the exact total of 1,205; advancing offsets; consistent continuation metadata; exact page sizes; unique address-shaped items; no truncated values; no duplicate address or value; and the complete deterministic procedure and string sets from index 0000 through 1204. Regression tests reject truncated, duplicate, and unstable-total pages. The C verifier was also corrected to read the public value field, reject truncated or duplicate matches, and bind mutations to the active document instead of list ordering. Validation: npm run check passes with 157 files and 1,044 tests. This advances only the C and large-pagination portions. The issue remains open for Objective-C, Swift, N-API, version-delta, disposable metadata persistence, real cancellation/timeout, and licensed Hopper execution. The current public surface has no Hopper database save/reopen operation or deterministic provider-timeout seam, so those claims remain incomplete.

The verifier now binds three distinct digest-checked artifacts, rejects aliased paths or hashes, consumes the large fixture count and symbol/string prefixes from the manifest, and exhaustively validates every public search page without hard-coded fixture naming. The C oracle now proves main-to-entry, entry-to-branch, branch-to-leaf caller/callee relationships, CFG evidence, assembly, exact strings, comments, and a procedure-bound global-name reference. Positive reference evidence must report the queried procedure as source_address. Unit coverage includes drift, aliasing, pagination inconsistency, truncation, duplicates, wrong totals, empty semantic fields, and wrong-source references. npm run check passes on the exact final tree. The issue remains open because licensed real-Hopper execution is still required before these claims are complete.
